A major security incident during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner at Washington Hilton triggered panic after gunfire reports. Secret Service detained a suspect linked to alleged assassination attempt on Donald Trump.
A high-profile security scare in Washington, D.C. during the White House Correspondents’ Dinner has raised serious questions about event security protocols in the United States. The incident reportedly took place at the Washington Hilton hotel, where former U.S. President Donald Trump was attending the event along with senior officials, journalists, and guests.
According to preliminary reports, the situation escalated when sounds resembling gunfire triggered panic inside the venue. Attendees were forced to take cover, while Secret Service agents quickly moved to secure the area and evacuate key figures, including the former president. The event, which is one of the most closely watched political gatherings in Washington, turned into chaos within minutes.
Security officials confirmed that the suspect was apprehended alive after an immediate confrontation with Secret Service agents near a security checkpoint inside the hotel. The suspect has been identified in early reports as Cole Thomas Allen, a former school teacher from California. HOW THE SUSPECT ENTERED
Investigators believe the suspect was staying inside the same hotel as a registered guest. Due to strict security restrictions, public entry was blocked hours before the event, and only invited guests were allowed inside. This allowed the suspect to bypass the first layer of security using his hotel access credentials.
Once inside, he reportedly moved toward a security checkpoint located in the hotel lobby area. Reports suggest he was armed with multiple weapons, including a shotgun, handgun, and knives. He then attempted to breach the Secret Service screening point, triggering an immediate response from security personnel.
SECRET SERVICE RESPONSE
As the suspect rushed toward the checkpoint, Secret Service agents engaged him and successfully subdued him on the spot. During the confrontation, gunfire was reported, and one Secret Service officer sustained injuries. However, the officer’s bulletproof vest is believed to have saved his life.
Thanks to the rapid response, the suspect was prevented from reaching the main ballroom where Donald Trump and other dignitaries were seated. Officials later confirmed that the suspect was approximately 50 yards away from the main event hall at the time of interception.
Inside the ballroom, an additional layer of security had already been established. Armed agents were positioned around the president’s seating area, ensuring multiple protective rings between the suspect and high-value targets.

Federal prosecutors have charged the suspect under multiple sections of U.S. federal law, including assault on a federal officer and use of a weapon during a violent crime.
